New details: D.A. says apparent road rage led to deadly Plymouth shooting



PLYMOUTH – Plymouth officials are on the scene of a shooting that occurred late Friday afternoon on Main Street in downtown Plymouth. Few details are available but Plymouth Police do say there is no danger to the public but are asking people to stay away from the area.

Update from Plymouth Police: At approximately 5:45 PM, the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department Communications Center began to receive numerous calls reporting a shooting and a person suffering from a gunshot wound in the public parking lot on Middle Street.

The first arriving officer confronted the suspect and took him into custody without incident.

The victim, a 41-year-old male was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. He was pronounced dead at 6:28 PM.

No names will be released until notification of the next of kin.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.

Update 1 PM Saturday: Plymouth County D.A. Timothy Cruz has identified the victim as Brent Berkley, 41, of Plymouth. The suspect was identified as David Jerome, 23, of Plymouth. D.A. Cruz at a press conference related that the two were involved in a minor traffic collision when a physical fight ensued. Witnesses then reported hearing 3 or 4 gunshots.

Jerome was charged with murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, reckless endangerment of a child, improper storage of a firearm, operating negligently to endanger, improper storage of ammunition, and possession of a large capacity feeding device. He is due to be arraigned Monday in Plymouth District Court.
