FALMOUTH – From Falmouth Fire-Rescue: Sunday afternoon, a homeowner on Cloverfield Way in Hatchville lost control of a permitted outside fire when the wind switched direction. Despite their best efforts to contain the fire, wind conditions pushed the fire into an area with multiple trees and heavy underbrush. The fire spread quickly to a nearby storage shed. The shed contained automobile and boat parts, with gasoline and propane tanks stored near the shed. The shed’s contents were a total loss. The fire also spread to a second temporary structure with a 37’ sailboat in winter storage. There was exterior damage to the sidewall and roof of the structure. There was no damage to the sailboat. A nearby truck was also damaged. The first arriving fire crews requested an upgrade to a first alarm assignment due to the size of the fire. There are no reported injuries. The fire remains under investigation by the Falmouth Fire- Fire Investigation Unit.
