PROVINCETOWN – The Pilgrim Monument and the Provincetown Museum will open for the season on Friday.
The museum will feature a new special exhibition titled “The Great Provincetown Summer–1916” which will highlight the country’s first art colony.
The exhibit will present objects, art and narrative about a remarkable period when art and cultural luminaries converged in Provincetown.
“It celebrates a confluence of cultural visionaries and luminaries that came to Provincetown that year for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was the advent of World War I,” said Monument and Museum Executive Director John McDonagh.
Other events happening at the Monument include the eighth annual “Run to the Top” on May 7, Ragnar Relay Cape Cod on May 14, and the annual meeting on June 17.
Dedicated in 1920, the Monument commemorates the first landing of the Mayflower Pilgrims in the ‘new world’ in Provincetown in 1620.
“It’s a great place to bring friends and family, it’s a great place for people of all ages,” said McDonagh.
