WEST DENNIS – Shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday the driver of a Dodge pickup truck traveling north on Swan River Road lost control of his vehicle and hit and snapped a pole near 25 Swan River Road. The vehicle continued down the street before coming to a stop on the side of the road about 300 feet from the point of impact in the area of Seascape Lane.
The driver, traveling alone, was cuffed by Dennis police officers before being evaluated by Dennis Fire Department medics. He was apparently uninjured. Dennis police officers then administered a field sobriety test.
Reports at the scene indicate that the driver might have been driving recklessly prior to the incident. Skid marks at the scene show that the truck was traveling on the side walk on the east side of the road before it struck the pole.
There was a brief power outage in the area at the time of the incident but as of 8 p.m. the Eversource outage map showed no customers without power in Dennis.
Swan River Road was closed to through traffic until Eversource crews could replace the pole.
The Dennis Police Department reports that the operator was issued a citation for failure to stay within marked lanes.
