BUZZARDS BAY — The Massachusetts Maritime men’s soccer program has enjoyed unprecedented success over the last two seasons
and as veteran Head Coach Greg Perry continues preparations for his 23rd campaign at the helm he has tabbed seniors Ryan Culp and Taylor Sjoberg as co-captains for the 2015 Buccaneer squad.
Culp, a native of Centreville, Md. and a graduate of Kent Island High School, started in 13 of 16 contests played a year ago in the midfield, as he chipped in with an assist. Ryan has appeared in 39 career matches and collected three career points for Massachusetts Maritime, including his first collegiate goal as a freshman. Sjoberg, a native of Mansfield, Mass. and a graduate of Mansfield High School, lends additional experience in the midfield for the Buccaneers, as he played in 16 matches in 2014 and has notched a goal and an assist in 43 career contests (with 12 starts). Both captains have also excelled in the classroom, earning spots on the Academy’s Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic squad.
“Our seniors have always set the bar high in terms of attaining excellence on and off the field, and Ryan and Taylor are no exception to that,” Perry, the dean of MASCAC coaches, says of his 2015 captains. “They have demonstrated effective leadership and provided an example that all of their teammates should follow, and I know they will carry on
the tradition that our previous captains have established.”
Massachusetts Maritime, which advanced to the MASCAC semifinals for the second straight year last fall, begins the new season on Tuesday, September 1st when the Buccaneers host WPI in a non-league match at Clean Harbors Stadium that begins at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
