PLYMOUTH – Plymouth voters approved a nip bottle ban by narrow margins at the recent fall town meeting. 1.7-ounce bottles of alcohol will no longer be able to be sold starting July of next year with the article’s 72-67 approval.
It’s a controversial rule that has been under debate across the Cape and Islands region, with proponents of bans saying the bottles contribute to drunk driving and significant plastic pollution for the region’s natural resources.
Opponents of the bans have said consumers will just go to other towns.
Mashpee and Falmouth are among the other handful of Massachusetts towns that have approved a nip ban.
