Local Farms Receive State Funding to Address Climate Change

BOSTON – The state is awarding $1 million in grants to help farms combat climate change and three local projects will receive funding.

The grants are awarded through the Agricultural Climate Resiliency & Efficiencies Program to help mitigate impacts of climate change and adapt to changing conditions.

Decas Cranberry Co. in Carver and A.D. Makepeace in Wareham were each awarded $50,000 for the purchase and installation of an irrigation pump.

Tony Andrews Farm in East Falmouth will receive nearly $8,000 for the purchase of no-till equipment.

“The ACRE grant program plays an important role in our administration’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector, build resiliency and ensure the long-term success of farms across the Commonwealth,” said Governor Charlie Baker.  

“We are pleased to work with Massachusetts farms and food suppliers through the ACRE program to better prepare for the impact of intense weather events.”
