When was the last time you read from a book? Not a Nook, but a book! Perhaps a book that you took from the library and tucked in your arm’s crook with a plot and a hook that you read till you shook!
Please don’t give me that look! Perhaps my story you mistook and you think my head is filled with gook!
Fine. I’ll stop. But as you can tell, I am a big fan of the late Theodore Geisel (better known as Dr. Seuss) who is arguably one of the most brilliant and influential wordsmiths in American Literature.
To celebrate Dr Seuss’s birthday, several staff members from CCB-Media took part in the Read Across America celebration at Horace Mann Charter School in Hyannis. We each got to pick a favorite book to read to a class.
Although not everyone got to read to a class, here are a few of our favorite books:
Karen Blake (Karen & Ralphie Morning Show on 999 The Q): I chose Green Eggs and Ham because it’s the one I remember my Mommy reading to me.
Brian Barth (CapeCod.com): One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish… Now that I am a Dad, and sharing books with my son, who likes Dr. Seuss books and he seems to enjoy this one a lot, which makes it my favorite, too!
Matt Pitta (CCB-Media News Director): I read Green Eggs and Ham because it was my favorite Dr. Seuss book as a child. I vividly remember all the imagery from the book and thinking how weird a green ham looked.
Dave Read (Ocean 104.7): I Wish I Had Duck Feet… As the weather guy here at CCB-Media, it’s the perfect book!
Jerry McKenna (CCB-Media Program Director): My favorite was Fox in Sox! I had the book as a kid and liked it because it was the only Dr. Seuss book I had that my friends and cousins did not also have. We all had Green Eggs and Ham and the Cat in the Hat but I was the only one with Fox in Sox. As a result, I thought the book was special.
Ralphie Marino (Karen & Ralphie Morning Show on 999 The Q): I picked Cat In The Hat. It’s a classic and it’s also the one the kids in the class picked out. We all took turns reading a page. It was a lot of fun!
Cat Wilson (That Girl in The Morning on Cape Country 104): It’s hard to pick just one! I love them all! I chose to read The Sneetches to the class. I remember my mom reading this one with me more than the others. You can learn a lot from a Sneetch!
Greg Bone (General Partner CCB-Media): Green Eggs and Ham…I always read Dr. Seuss books to our children at night and they loved all of them, but they always were a bit perplexed that the eggs were green so we had some fun with that.
Cathy Summers (999 The Q and Cape Country 104): I like How The Grinch Stole Christmas! It’s a classic and I enjoy reading it to my daughters in fun voices!
