PROVINCETOWN – Three days of westerly gales have taken their toll in the ongoing erosion at Herring Cove. Up until about a month ago foot and bicycle traffic could still get through this section to reach the bike trail to the visitor center and Race Point. Three days ago the Mobi Mats that were put down for bikes were undercut by the erosion. Today everything is gone right to the dune making it dangerous even to walk the area. Bike traffic has been detoured onto Provincelands Road. The National Park Service has announced plans to replace the lot putting it on top of the dune at the right but one has to wonder without stabilization how much time that will actually buy.
