SOUTH YARMOUTH – Yarmouth police arrested a 31-year-old man accused of dealing heroin.
Alan Joseph Carey of South Yarmouth was taken into custody after police executed a search warrant at his home on Alewife Circle Tuesday at about 4:10 p.m.
He was charged with felony possession to distribute heroin.
Police say the search warrant was obtained by Yarmouth Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit Detective Christopher A. Kent based on probable cause that was developed by the Yarmouth Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit and Proactive Anti-Crime Unit Officers, as well members of the Dennis and Brewster Police Departments regarding heroin distribution by Alan J. Carey and numerous reports of illegal drug activity from concerned citizens.
Police say while conducting the search they found a clear plastic knotted baggie containing a brown rock like substance and 13 individual knotted baggies containing a brown powder like substance identified as heroin on top of the kitchen cabinets. Next to the heroin was a digital scale. Located in a cabinet below the heroin was a box of clear sandwich baggies. In a bedroom was an electronic counter surveillance system with a TV as a monitor and a replica handgun BB gun.
According to police, Carey has 16 prior adult charges in Massachusetts. He was placed under arrest and transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters in West Yarmouth. He was scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court this morning.
