LAKEVILLE – Ocean Spray has announced its crop estimate for this year’s cranberry harvest, saying production in Massachusetts should remain steady.

The cooperative expects global production to hit 13 million barrels this season. The average barrel contains 100 pounds of cranberries.

While production in Massachusetts is expected to remain on par, the industry is expected to grow in New Jersey, Quebec, and Wisconsin. All three are expected to see significant increases in production this year.

Wisconsin has surpassed Massachusetts as the largest cranberry producer in the country, with an estimated 5.8 million barrels expected this year. Massachusetts is on track to produce about 2.1 million, according to Ocean Spray.

“Our Cooperative of family farms and the cranberry industry as a whole continues to grow by consistently delivering a high quality crop,” said Dan Crocker, Ocean Spray’s Vice President of Cooperative Development and Global Ingredients. “Ocean Spray is focused on selling that crop by growing demand for our Grower-Owner’s fruit through both new product innovation and continuing to introduce the cranberry to new markets, geographies, and consumers worldwide.”

Ocean Spray is the leading producer of cranberry products in the world. Of the 13 million barrels expected worldwide this year, Ocean Spray is expected to produce 8 million.
